Deaths should be registered within 5 days of the date of death, although there are some situations when the registration of a death will be delayed, such as those deaths reported to a coroner. The coroner sends information to the registrar, and this is used instead of any information on the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD) to register the death.$Sole/ Joint registrations births occurring outside marriage/civil partnership may be registered eithe<r jointly or solely. A joint registration records details of both parents, and requires them both to be present. A sole registration records only the mother s details. In a few cases a joint registration is made in the absence of the father/second parent if an affiliation order or statutory declaration is provided. Information from the birth registration is used to determine whether the parents jointly registering a birth outside marriage/civil partnership were usually resident at the same address at the time of registration. Births with both parents at the same address are identified by a single entry for the informant s usual address, while different addresses are identified by two entries.zStillbirth born after 24 or more weeks completed gestation and which did not, at any time, breathe or show signs of lifeMother's country of birth3>Birth cohort tables for infant deaths, England and Wales, 2014\Live births, stillbirths and linked infant deaths: month of birth in 2014, numbers and ratesdLive births, stillbirths and linked infant deaths: babies born in 2014, plurality, numbers and ratestLive births, stillbirths and linked infant deaths: babies born in 2014, plurality and birthweight, numbers and ratesuLive births, stillbirths and linked infant deaths: babies born in 2014, plurality by age of mother, numbers and ratestLive births, stillbirths and linked infant deaths: babies born in 2014, mother's country of birth, numbers and ratestLive births, stillbirths and linked infant deaths: babies born in 2014, plurality, marital status of mother/type of sLive births, stillbirths and linked infant deaths: babies born in 2014, plurality, marital status of mother/type ofkLive births, stillbirths and linked infant deaths: babies born in 2014, ONS cause groups, numbers and rates" Infant deaths figures reported in these tables represent babies born in 2014 who died before their first birthday: the 2014 birth cohort for infant deaths. GIn Table 8, stillbirths, neonatal and postneonatal deaths are analysed by broad underlying cause of death groups (ONS cause group). This is a hierarchical classification of cause groups in ICD-10 developed to derive a single cause group for neonatal deaths and stillbirths. The classification enables direct comparison of stillbirths, neonatal and postneonatal deaths, not otherwise possible due to differences in the way cause of death for stillbirths and neonates is recorded compared with postneonates at registration (special death certificate for stillbirths and neonates were introduced by ONS in 1986). The ONS cause groups allows the death to be assigned to a category based on the likely timing of the damage leading to the death. For further information on the ONS cause of death groups hierarchical classification, refer to our Crown copyright 2017cTable 1 Live births, stillbirths and linked1 infant deaths: month of birth 2014, numbers and rates2+,b2 Stillbirths and perinatal deaths per 1,000 live births and stillbirths.
