The combined method means that sole registered births where information on the father is not available are now included in published statistics by NS-SEC. Figures from 2012 onwards are not directly comparable with previous years when father s NS-SEC was used. hA report assessing the impact of applying a combined approach to NS-SEC is published on the ONS website. An information note on the implications for birth and death statistics of the reclassification of occupation codes from SOC2000 to SOC2010 in January 2011 is available on the ONS website.BLinkage of infant deaths to their corresponding birth registrationRates6resources and our charging policy, where appropriate).!;All user requested data will be published onto the website.Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, P< oland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Cyprus (EU), Cyprus (not otherwise stated), Spain (except Canary Islands), Spain not otherwise stated, Aland Islands, Vatican City, Czechoslovakia not otherwise specified, Canary Islands, Croatia2 Up to 30 September 1992 these figures represent late fetal deaths at or over 28 weeks gestation, and from 1 October 1992 at or over 24 weeks gestation - numbers and rates, 1980 to 2014Rates Stillbirths2 /1 Excluding non-residents of England and Wales.&2 Including non-residents of Scotland.3 Including deaths of non-residents of Northern Ireland but excluding births to non-resident mothers of Northern Ireland except in the\4 There were 221 live births and no stillbirths to non-resident mothers of Northern Ireland.mTable 2 Live births, stillbirths, infant deaths and childhood deaths under 15: country of occurrence and sex,% numbers and rates, 2014England1 #"Wales1 #"Scotland2 # "Northern Ireland3,4#4 From the 2012 data year ONS have used the combined method for reporting NS-SEC for birth statistics (using the most advantaged NS-SEC of either parent and creating a5 The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 contained provisions enabling two females in a same sex couple to register a birth from 1 September 2009 onwards. 6 Due to the small number of stillbirths in socio-economic category 8, the totals for categories 7 and 8 have been combined to protect confidentiality.&Inside marriage/civil partnership5 and!"Classification47 and 867 and 86 of records affected.}Table 8 Live births, stillbirths and linked1 infant deaths: ONS cause groups2, marital status of mother3/type of registration+,LMgh^Live births, stillbirths and linked infant deaths: ONS cause groups, marital status of mother/:type of registration and number of previous children, 2014ZLive births, stillbirths and linked infant deaths: mother s age, marital status of mother/Mtype of registration and number of previous children, numbers and rates, 20144 The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 2008 contained provisions enabling two females in a same sex couple to register a birth from 1 September 2009 onwards. Tables 5 8 and 10 15 are based on numbers of infant deaths occurring in 2014 that have been successfully linked to their corresponding birth registration. The linkage of infant death records to their corresponding birth registration record has been conducted since 1975 to obtain information on social and biological factors of the baby and parents collected at birth registration. These include the birthweight, mother s age at birth of child, mother s country of birth, marital status, number of previous children and parents socio-economic status. In 2014, 99% of infant deaths in England and Wales were successfully linked to their birth registration record. The linkage rate has remained consistent since the linking exercise began. The main reasons for an infant death not being linked are either; a birth registration record cannot be found, or the birth was registered outside England and Wales. PWe welcome feedback from users. Please send feedback to the email address above.Further information on data quality, legislation and procedures relating to childhood, infant and perinatal mortality can be found in a User guide to Child mortality statistics. The registration of births and deaths is a service carried out by the Local Registration Service in partnership with the General Register Office (GRO) in Southport. Deaths should be registered within 5 days of the date of death, although there are some situations when the registration of a death will be delayed, such as those deaths reported to a coroner. The coroner sends information to the registrar, and this is used instead of any information on the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death (MCCD) to register the death.$Sole/ Joint registrations births occurring outside marriage/civil partnership may be registered either jointly or solely. A joint registration records details of both parents, and requires them both to be present. A sole registration records only the mother s details. In a few cases a joint registration is made in the absence of the father/second parent if an affiliation order or statutory declaration is provided. Information from the birth registration is used to determine whether the parents jointly registering a birth outside marriage/civil partnership were usually resident at the same address at the time of registration. Births with both parents at the same address are identified by a single entry for the informant s usual address, while different addresses are identified by two entries.Cause group2 % $All causes Congenital anomalies Antepartum infections #Asphyxia, anoxia or trauma (intrapartum) External conditions Infections Other specific conditions $Asphyxia, anoxia or trauma (antepartum) Sudden infant deaths Other conditions All causes Congenital anomalies Antepartum infections "Asphyxia, anoxia or trauma (intrapartum) External conditions !Other specific conditions (antepartum) Remaining antepartum deaths Other conditions All causes EInside marriage/civil partnership and joint registration, same addressCongenital anomalies Antepartum infections Immaturity related conditions Asphyxia, anoxia or trauma (intrapartum) External Infections Other specific (antepartum) Remaining antepartum deaths Sudden infant Mother's country of birth3UIn Tables 6 to 8, stillbirths, neonatal and postneonatal deaths are analysed by broad underlying cause of death groups (ONS cause group). This is a hierarchical classification of cause groups in ICD-10 developed to derive a single cause group for neonatal deaths and stillbirths. The classification enables direct comparison of stillbirths, neonatal and postneonatal deaths, not otherwise possible due to diffe<s rences in the way cause of death for stillbirths and neonates is recorded compared with postneonates at registration (special death certificate for stillbirths and neonates were introduced by ONS in 1986). The ONS cause groups allows the death to be assigned to a category based on the likely timing of the damage leading to the death.
